NPCI October 2026 MDR Rules & FAQ

MDR is a fee charged to merchants by acquiring banks and payment service providers for processing digital transactions. Starting October 2026, NPCI guidelines establish transparent tier structures for UPI transactions.
No! The customer always pays exactly the purchase bill amount. Under Indian regulations, charging customers extra for paying via UPI or debit card is illegal. The MDR fee, if applicable, is settled between the merchant's bank account and payment network.
Under NPCI circular guidelines, businesses classified as Small Merchants (P2PM) with cumulative monthly UPI receipts up to ₹1,00,000 enjoy 100% Free (₹0) MDR. DukaanDost includes a monthly tracker that automatically resets on the 1st of every calendar month to help you monitor this ceiling.
For Regular Merchants:
• Transactions up to ₹2,000 have 0% MDR.
• Transactions above ₹2,000 incur a standard 0.4% MDR.
• The fee is strictly capped at a maximum of ₹300 per transaction (reached on transactions of ₹75,000 or higher).
Personal transfers (P2P) between individuals and recurring automated payments (UPI AutoPay/Mandates) are completely exempt from MDR and remain ₹0.

1. Acceptance of Terms
By downloading, installing, or accessing the DukaanDost mobile application or website ("Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
2. Informational & Calculation Tool Nature
DukaanDost is an independent financial calculation and shop ledger utility. It is intended to assist Indian merchants in estimating payment processing costs and Merchant Discount Rates based on publicly issued NPCI circulars and banking industry standards.
While our algorithms utilize exact integer paise math to ensure maximum accuracy, actual bank deductions may vary based on merchant acquiring contracts, terminal rental agreements, GST applicability, or specific bank settlement cycles. DukaanDost is not a bank, payment aggregator, or financial intermediary.
3. Intellectual Property
All software, brand marks, designs, text, and domain logos associated with DukaanDost are the exclusive property of DukaanDost Technologies. You may not decompile, reverse-engineer, copy, or redistribute our intellectual property without prior written consent.
4. User Responsibilities & Local Ledger Data
You are solely responsible for maintaining the physical security of your device. DukaanDost stores offline ledger transactions locally in application sandboxed storage. While an optional cloud backup is provided via mobile login, we recommend periodically verifying your shop tallies.
5. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted under applicable Indian law, DukaanDost Technologies shall not be held liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages resulting from calculation discrepancies, bank rate revisions, network outages, or device failure.
6. Governing Law & Jurisdiction
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Republic of India. Any disputes arising out of these terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the competent courts in Gurugram / New Delhi, India.

Privacy Policy

Core Privacy Guarantee: DukaanDost operates on an offline-first architecture. All daily MDR fee calculations, ₹1 Lakh threshold tracking, and counter billing tools run 100% on your device. You can use all core features without creating an account or uploading any financial data.
1. Information We Collect
A. Phone Authentication (Optional): If you choose to enable cloud backup, we collect your 10-digit mobile number (+91) via Firebase Phone Authentication to deliver a verification OTP.
B. Cloud Preferences (Optional): Synced merchant categories, language choice, and aggregated collection totals are stored securely in Google Cloud Firestore in Mumbai (Asia-South1) with AES-256 encryption.
C. Advertising Telemetry: Google Mobile Ads (AdMob) displays non-intrusive banner ads on informational screens (never on the calculator counter). GAID identifiers can be reset in your Android settings.
D. Bank SMS (Future Phase 3): Future automated credit tracking will strictly parse transactional bank SMS locally. Raw SMS text is never uploaded to remote servers.
2. Data Retention & Right to Erasure
You can erase local data anytime by uninstalling the app. To request permanent cloud deletion of your phone number and records, email privacy@dukaandost.online (processed within 7 business days).
